10 Jul 2026The opening day of the CSI A Coruña concluded with an exciting finale in the magnificent Casas Novas arena, where Spanish riders stole the spotlight. Iván Serrano emerged victorious in a thrilling head-to-head battle with Sergio Álvarez Moya to claim the CaixaBank Trophy.
A Coruña, July 10, 2026 –
The CaixaBank Trophy, the feature class on the opening day of the CSI4 A Coruña*, was decided in a jump-off featuring the 12 horse-and-rider combinations that produced faultless rounds over Javier Trenor's 1.50m course. Eight of those 12 finalists were Spanish, and that numerical advantage was reflected in the final standings, with home riders claiming the top two places.
A superb jump-off from Iván Serrano aboard the experienced Rain Man saw the Basque rider, who is based in Cantabria, stop the clock in 32.29 seconds, a time that proved impossible to beat.
The closest challenge came from Sergio Álvarez Moya, but riding the relatively inexperienced nine-year-old mare Be Blue, the Asturian rider could only manage 32.91 seconds, securing second place.
The remaining seven double-clear combinations finished well behind the leading pair. Sweden's Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli claimed third aboard Iron Dames Calvino II de Nyze Z in 35.22 seconds, while another Spanish partnership, Joel Vallés and Chalawito PS, finished fourth after two excellent fault-free rounds and a jump-off time of 36.03 seconds.
Two more Spanish riders also completed double-clear performances: Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, who finished sixth with Harlequín des Flagues, and Ismael García Roque, seventh aboard Tirano.
The winner, Iván Serrano, received the CaixaBank Trophy from Ramón Castiñeira, CaixaBank's Head of Corporate Banking for Galicia.
Italian Victory in the Veolia Trophy
The afternoon session on the opening day of the CSI4 A Coruña* got underway with an Italian victory courtesy of the ever-consistent Luca Maria Moneta. Casas Novas marked his third consecutive competition in Spain in recent weeks, and at each of those events he has claimed at least one win.
His success in A Coruña came in the Veolia Trophy, a Two-Phase class, where Moneta guided Knock Out to victory with a decisive second-phase time of 25.75 seconds. The closest challenger was Spanish rider Laura Roquet, who finished second aboard Nina Puigroq in 26.68 seconds, while Iván Serrano completed the podium in third with Paco vd Bisschop in 27.12 seconds.
The Veolia Trophy attracted 40 horse-and-rider combinations, with 13 producing fault-free performances in both phases.
The winner's trophy was presented by Pablo Nieto, Veolia's Delegate for Galicia.
With these two classes, the opening day of the CSI4 A Coruña* came to a close. Competition resumes on Saturday with four more classes: the Porsche Trophy and the Checkpoint Trophy in the morning, followed in the afternoon by the Grupo Eulen Trophy and the feature Longines Trophy. Between the afternoon classes, spectators will also enjoy a live performance by Platinum Sound Show.
