A Coruña, July 11, 2026 –
The CSI1* 1.25m class opened Saturday's competition with 19 horse-and-rider combinations. The Porsche Trophy, run against the clock, saw 12 clear rounds over the course designed by Javier Trenor.
The battle for the top two places was exceptionally close, with just four hundredths of a second separating first and second. Going into the final stages of the class, Viktor Kurguzov, the Russian rider who trains with Luca Moneta and competes under a neutral flag, held the lead aboard Canaska du Park with a time of 61.93 seconds. However, he was ultimately overtaken by Juana María Roig.
The young rider from the Balearic Islands, who is currently based in Vitoria under the guidance of Kevin González de Zárate, stopped the clock in 61.89 seconds aboard the 12-year-old mare Jill Donna to secure victory. Roig had already produced a faultless round with the same mare on the opening day of the competition.
Third place went to another Spanish rider trained by Kevin González de Zárate, Chantal Fernández Sáez, who finished in 63.75 seconds aboard the Spanish Sport Horse (CDE) Bubalu, a horse bred in Galicia.
The Porsche Trophy was presented by Jordi Curros, Manager of Porsche Centre A Coruña, accompanied by Oxer Sport President Álvaro Arrieta.
Mexican victory in the Checkpoint Trophy
The second CSI1* class of the morning, the Checkpoint Trophy, was the highest-ranked class of the section, with fences set at 1.40m. Once again, a female rider claimed the top spot on the podium.
Mexico's Federica Fernández secured victory by the narrowest of margins—just two hundredths of a second. The daughter of Mexican Olympic rider Federico Fernández Senderos, she guided Maricucha LS to a winning time of 29.34 seconds in the jump-off.
Asturian rider Miguel Álvarez-Buylla, who has been enjoying an outstanding show, finished second aboard Spirit van de Gaathoeve in 29.36 seconds, while Gonzalo Busca once again featured among the leading riders, taking third place with Ouija in 29.55 seconds.
After the Mexican national anthem was played in her honour, Federica Fernández received the Checkpoint Trophy from José Caride, General Manager of Checkpoint ALS Iberia & Morocco.
Competition continues on Saturday afternoon at Casas Novas Equestrian Centre with two CSI4* A Coruña classes: the Grupo EULEN Trophy (1.45m) and the Longines Trophy (1.50m).
