First Day of the Longines Global Champions Tour Mexico, Presented by GNP Mexico Jumping

16 Apr 2026

The most prestigious equestrian circuit in the world, the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) — considered the “Formula 1 of equestrian sport” — has arrived in Mexico City. Founded in 2006 by Dutch Olympic rider Jan Tops, this championship brings together the international elite of show jumping at iconic venues such as Paris, Miami, London, Prague, Doha, Shanghai, and Cairo, among others.

Since 2016, the Mexican capital has established itself as one of the favorite stops on the circuit, not only because of its cultural richness and vibrant atmosphere, but also because of the passion of its spectators. It is also the only stop on the tour in Latin America, making it a key point on the international calendar.

Mexican dominance in the Totalplay Trophy

Thursday’s action began promptly at 10:00 a.m. with the first CSI 2* event, contested under a two-phase format with 1.35-meter obstacles. Of the 72 horse-and-rider combinations competing, Mexico claimed the podium: Natalia Elaine Medina, riding “Valenda,” took first place; followed by Daniel Rihan on “Galaxie du Marais”; while Denise Pedraza, with “Santa Rosa Bamba,” completed the top three.

Jérôme Guéry wins the Years of Culture Trophy

The 5* competition began with the Years of Culture Trophy, featuring a 1.45-meter course that many riders used as preparation for later events. Belgian rider Jérôme Guéry claimed victory aboard “Careca LS Elite” after a faultless round and a time of 29.18 seconds in the second phase.

Second place went to Irish rider Jordan Coyle on “King Kannan GP,” while Turkish rider Derin Demirsoy, riding “Que Cera van’t Ruytershof,” finished in third place.

The trophy was presented by Jan Tops on behalf of the sponsor Years of Culture, a global initiative led by Qatar that promotes cultural exchange between nations. This collaboration will have a presence at key venues such as Mexico City, Cairo, and Rabat, positioning equestrian sport as a bridge between cultures. In Mexico’s case, it is part of the Qatar, Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture program, highlighting the country’s cultural and equestrian heritage while strengthening international ties.

Brazil triumphs in the Traxión Trophy

The day concluded with another CSI 2* event, the Traxión Trophy, featuring 1.45-meter obstacles and 51 horse-and-rider combinations. Brazilian rider Eduardo Pereira de Menezes secured victory with a time of 55.85 seconds aboard “H5 Agando Butterfly Z.”

Behind him finished two young Mexican talents: Ana Sofía Legorreta, riding “Yoga Santa Rosa,” in second place, and Patricio Pasquel P, aboard “Cabablue,” in third.
