Sariego, June 16, 2026 –
Finca Maeza Stud Farm hosted this morning the official presentation of the 6th Maeza International Show Jumping Competition (CSI Maeza), which will take place from July 3 to 5 in Sariego (Asturias). The event brought together media representatives, public authorities, sponsors, and partners to learn about the main details of a competition that has established itself as one of the premier equestrian events of the summer season.
The stud farm’s director, Cruz Maestre, opened the presentation by highlighting the remarkable growth the event has experienced since its inception.
“Today, we can proudly say that Maeza has secured a permanent place on both the national and international equestrian calendars. We are the first major competition of the summer season, making us a highly anticipated event for riders and spectators alike. Our goal has always been to deliver a sporting spectacle of the highest quality,” she said.
Cruz Maestre also emphasized the event’s social commitment, announcing that all ticket proceeds will once again be donated to three non-profit organizations: Asociación Raitana, Asturian Equestrian Therapy Association, and the animal welfare organization Masquechuchos. Tickets are already available through the event’s official website: www.csimaeza.com.
For his part, Saúl Bastián, Mayor of Sariego, highlighted the significance that CSI Maeza has acquired for the municipality and the wider Cider Region.
“The competition generates an extraordinary economic, tourism, and promotional impact for our territory. We are proud to host an event of this caliber in Sariego, and the Town Council will continue supporting its growth in the years to come,” he stated.
The sporting section was presented by Álvaro Arrieta, President of Oxer Sport, who began by acknowledging the commitment shown by the Maeza family since the project’s early days.
“When passion, dedication, and a constant pursuit of excellence come together, anything is possible. This competition is the result of many years of hard work and the confidence of a family that believed in creating something truly significant for Spanish show jumping,” he noted.
Arrieta also praised the essential role played by the event’s sponsors and partners.
“Without their support, an event of this level would not be possible. They are an indispensable part of Maeza’s success,” he added.
On the sporting front, he explained that the sixth edition will feature a field of exceptionally high calibre, both nationally and internationally. Among the Spanish riders competing will be the four members of the team that recently won the Nations Cup of Lisbon: Jesús Garmendia, Pello Elorduy, Kevin González de Zárate, and Pilar Lucrecia Cordón. They will be joined by leading figures of Spanish equestrian sport, including Olympians Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and Ismael García Roque.
The international growth of the competition will also be one of the highlights of this year’s edition. CSI Maeza will welcome representatives from 21 different nationalities, surpassing the 18 countries represented last year and increasing the number of international riders from 25 to 39.
Among the confirmed participants are Belgian brothers Thibault and Anthony Philippaerts, Dutch rider Eric van der Vleuten, French riders Jeanne Sadran and Olivier Robert, Italian rider Luca Maria Moneta—winner of the 2023 Maeza Grand Prix—and Japanese rider Eiken Sato, all of whom are regular competitors on the leading European show jumping circuit.
The sporting programme will once again include the Sariego Town Council Trophy for the best Under-25 rider and the Cider Region Commonwealth Trophy, which this year will, for the first time, reward the highest-placed Spanish Sport Horse (CDE) in the Grand Prix.
The presentation concluded with a reception and a toast featuring Foncueva cider, bringing to a close an event that officially launched a new edition of a competition that successfully combines elite sport, social commitment, and regional promotion.
