Marcus Ehning wins the Copa de SM la Reina for the second time at the CSIO Barcelona

The German rider triumphs with Stargold ten years after his first victory in this historic competition, achieved in 2016 with Funky Fred

Barcelona, 3 October 2026.- Ten years later, Marcus Ehning has once again won the Copa de SM la Reina – Trofeo KAR Sport Horses – Premio Generalitat de Catalunya, a competition that was brought forward by more than two hours to avoid the heavy rainfall forecast for tonight. In 2016, the German rider won on the Olympic arena at the Real Club de Polo with Funky Fred, and today he has repeated the feat aboard Stargold.

Ehning completed the course in an impressive time of 70.55 seconds, leaving French rider Nicolas Sers (Komet des K Z) more than a second behind. The Spanish contingent once again featured on the podium thanks to Álvaro González de Zárate, who finished third with Casa Diva PS.

Brazilian victory in the Trofeo CaixaBank

Giulia Dal Canton won the Trofeo CaixaBank, the second competition of the day at the CSIO Barcelona. Riding Jolie Girl du Breil, the Brazilian rider was the fastest of the four competitors who completed both rounds without penalties. With a time of 44.34 seconds, Dal Canton was 70 hundredths of a second faster than the best Spanish rider, Maria Gil Díaz with Explosion vh Legita Hof Z. Third place went to RC Polo rider Diana Piera, riding Irish de Riverland.

Danish rider Sophie Schwarck wins the Copa Vilmon

The day opened with Sophie Schwarck’s victory in the Copa Vilmon. With a time of 62.22 seconds, the Danish rider, riding Attention Please Z, finished more than a second ahead of Ibiza-based rider Chantal Fernández Saez, who, with Bubalu, was the best Spanish representative. Third place went to fellow Ibiza-based rider Juana Maria Roig Tur, riding Jill Dona.

The CSIO Barcelona will come to an end tomorrow, Sunday, with the most important competition of the event: the Longines League of Nations Final. The world’s eight highest-ranked national teams will compete, along with Spain as the host nation. Following the instructions of Civil Protection, the start of the competition has been postponed from 12:00 to 14:30 to avoid the heavy rainfall expected until 14:00.
