The Mayor of Madrid presents an edition defined by the fusion of Madrid’s traditions and international equestrian sport.

More than 23,000 attendees in its 2025 edition, nearly 150 international riders and over 200 horses, together with prize money exceeding one million euros, make the Longines Global Champions Tour a driver of impact for Madrid, boosting key sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and services, within the context of an equestrian industry that contributes €7.392 billion to Spain’s GDP and generates around 150,000 jobs.

Madrid, May 6, 2026 – Madrid once again becomes the world capital of equestrian sport this spring with the celebration of the Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid. Coinciding this year with the San Isidro festivities, the event is firmly established as one of the highlights of Madrid’s calendar and one of the city council’s flagship events for these dates, bringing together elite sport, gastronomy, leisure, music, and lifestyle in one of the city’s most exclusive settings.

The official presentation of the event, chaired by Madrid’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, took place this morning at Madrid City Hall, in Plaza de Cibeles, in an event blending the spirit of San Isidro with equestrian culture. The opening featured a performance by two “chulapos” from the group Los Castizos, who danced a traditional chotis, followed by a staging that combined elements of both traditions.

The event also included the participation of Javier Revuelta, president of the Royal Spanish Equestrian Federation; Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, one of Spain’s leading equestrian figures; and Álvaro Arrieta, president of Oxer Sport, the event organizers.

From May 15 to 17, the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host a new edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid, which this year will include the 115th Madrid International Show Jumping Competition (CSI Madrid), one of the most emblematic and prestigious events in the international equestrian calendar.

Over four days, Madrid will once again become the international epicenter of equestrian sport, welcoming some of the best riders and horses in the world to the iconic grass arena of the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. “Without a doubt, the main attraction of this competition is the presence of a large number of top-ranked riders in the world. Alongside them, eight Spanish riders will compete. This occasion is crucial for the Federation’s technical team to assess the condition of horses and riders who may represent Spain at the World Championship next August in Germany,” said Javier Revuelta.

The eight Spanish riders competing with the national team in the CSI 5* are: Sergio Álvarez Moya, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, Mariano Martínez Bastida, Julios Arias Cueva, Carlos López-Fanjul Tartiere, Alberto Márquez Galobardes, Iván Serrano Sáez, and Álvaro González de Zárate.

Among the standout riders, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar expressed his excitement about his current transition period: “We have very young horses that still need to gain experience, but many of them have already delivered great results. I feel at home here, and it’s a pleasure to compete in Madrid in such an important international event.” Álvarez Aznar will compete alongside his team, Madrid In Motion, during the team events on Friday afternoon, May 15, and encouraged local fans to support him.

Amid the San Isidro celebrations, the event will offer a unique combination of top-level sporting competition, gastronomy, leisure, and lifestyle, consolidating itself as a must-do plan for both locals and visitors during the festivities. “We want everyone who visits us to come and enjoy themselves, which is why we have focused on entertainment and expanded the leisure offering with more food trucks, a larger Pony Club for children, more live music groups… so visitors stay longer and enjoy a great experience, in addition to watching top-level sport,” said Álvaro Arrieta, director of Oxer.

In addition to the sporting events, the Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid will feature dining areas, shopping zones, and experiences for all audiences in a unique setting, reinforcing its position as one of the most important events on Madrid’s May agenda.

“All Madrilenians have a double celebration this San Isidro, because in addition to honoring our patron saint, the Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid begins on the 15th. Last year it attracted more than 23,000 people—twice as many as the same event in London—showing its strong impact on the city,” said José Luis Martínez-Almeida. The mayor also encouraged everyone, regardless of their familiarity with the sport, to attend and discover this discipline. “It’s a great opportunity for the city to host major events. With this one, between May 15 and 17, the leisure options in Madrid are endless,” he concluded.

The event will once again position Madrid as one of the most iconic venues on the international circuit, bringing together leading national and international equestrian figures for a weekend marked by sport, spectacle, and the festive atmosphere of San Isidro.
