The big class today was a points class, for the FEI Longines Rankings and it was sponsored by the German channel, Clip My Horse. This is our official channel where for the whole six weeks, you can follow all of the live action here at Montenmedio.
It was rather apt then, that the German rider Marcel Marschallwas the receiver of the trophy and that the German anthem “Deutschlandlied” rang out across the showground. From the twelve riders that got through to the jump off only half managed a second clear round and Marcel, riding “Fenia Van Klapscheut”, gave the others lesson of how to ride accurately at speed.
The international British rider, Holly Smith, took second place with a superb round on“Hearts Destiny”; whilst the Olympic rider from the USA Laura Kraut, completed the top three, riding “Zeremonie”, a 12yr old Holsteiner mare that she rode as part of the team winning gold at WEG in Tryon.
The winners of the 1.45m and the 1.40m were, Ricardo Pissani and “Cristo 23” and the British rider Donald Whitakerwith Toki II (resp).
Three young lady riders took the top places in the 1.40m, Medium Tour. Taylor Alexander from the USA, was untouchable and flew round the second phase of this class on “Ryanair de Riverland”, winning with over two seconds in hand from Jessica Dimmockfrom the UK and her mount “Billy Fleance”. In third place was another American rider Kerry Mccahill.
The three Small Tour classes were again topped by Spanish riders. Álvaro Gónzalez de Zárate won the 1.25m;Olivia Álvarez from Asturias the 1.15m and Juan Miguel Febrer riding “Grantender” the 1.05m.
