The 2020 Global Champions League season started in February in Doha with an unfortunate result for Madrid in Motion, but with very good feelings from its riders. It was just the beginning of a long and promising season in which the team sponsored by Massimo Dutti and Marqués de Riscal had high hopes. But a few weeks later and unexpectedly the world was confined by the global pandemic of COVID 19 and the sport was completely paralyzed. Thus, we saw how the calendar of national and international competitions added cancellation after cancellation. The Global Champions League was also forced to suspend the season.
But this weekend Jan Tops, president of the Global Champions and owner of the magnificent facilities of Valkenswaard “Tops International Arena”, wanted to give the best riders a second chance and relaunch to the arena, for one day, the 16 teams that make up the league. This time with surprises in the sports program that has undergone some change compared to last season. The two rounds that had been held on different days on 2019 season have been held on the same day, today Sunday, one after the other.
In this case, the Madrid in Motion riders with options have been the Van der Vleuten, Eric and his son Maikel, who has just won 4 great international Grand Prix in just two months of competition after returning to the tracks.
In the first round the impression was unbeatable, both pairs finished their runs without fail, placing themselves in fifth position in the ranking, waiting for the outcome. At 15.15 the second round, the decisive one, started. First came Eric riding Wunschkind, a pair that has finished a brilliant journey keeping the score at zero. Maikel's turn was decisive, but three poles down by Beauville Z have taken them away from the podium with 12 accumulated points and a tenth place in the ranking that has finally been led by the Hamburg Giants, the only team that has managed to finish all their courses without faults with Bart Bless and Hermes Ryan at the controls.
Despite the result, Madrid in Motion fans have been able to relive a pleasant and exciting Sunday of team competition with their favorite riders and horses in one of the best competitions that we will experience this unique season.
