The Galician Jacobo Fontán won this afternoon the Ascor Trophy, the 1.40m class that ends the first day of the CSI Maeza. The rider, riding Coltaire, was the only one able to snatch the first place of the podium from the veteran and competitive Leonardo Medal, who with a time of 28.40 seconds seemed to hold on to the first place since his departure to the track. Leonardo forms a pair with Rey de Gozón, a local horse born 14 years ago in the Manzaneda stud, home of Medal himself. Together they have achieved numerous important victories and are candidates to win the Grand Prix Maeza. On this occasion, with a clear round and a time of 27.73, Fontán was superior. He was accompanied on the podium by Medal himself and another veteran rider who is a regular on the winning lists, Jesús Garmendia, who did 29.12 seconds in the second phase with Valut 2.
More than half of the 30 participants managed to finish the two phases of the course without any accumulated points and only seven failed in the first phase of a course designed by the course manager Isabel Fernández Cañete.
Despite the rain that fell during the last test, the public of the CSI Maeza was able to enjoy a pleasant day of competition watching the best national and international riders jump.
