Maeza will field the Spanish team that won the Nations Cup in Lisbon
24 Jun 2026Sariego, June 24, 2026 –
With just over a week remaining until the start of CSI Maeza, more top-level names continue to be confirmed for an edition that will once again bring together some of the best national and international riders. Among them, the full Spanish team that claimed victory in the Lisbon Nations Cup last May stands out, marking one of the most significant recent achievements in Spanish equestrian sport.
Yeguada Finca Maeza will therefore have the privilege of welcoming Jesús Garmendia, Pilar Cordón, Pello Elorduy, and Kevin González de Zárate, the four members of the team that led Spain to the top step of the podium in the Portuguese capital.
Jesús Garmendia, one of the most experienced riders on the national circuit and a regular competitor at CSI Maeza, will return to Sariego aiming to further expand his impressive record at the event. The rider from Gipuzkoa has been responsible for numerous victories at Maeza over the years, although he still has unfinished business in the Grand Prix, where he has already produced several notable jump-off performances. Following his outstanding showing in Lisbon, where he and Sudafrica delivered the decisive jump-off that secured Spain’s victory, he arrives in excellent form after a series of strong results at the Copa Comunidad de Madrid, including several wins and a top-ten finish in the Grand Prix.
Pilar Cordón, meanwhile, arrives in Asturias after enjoying an excellent international season. The Zaragoza-born rider continues to develop a promising string of young horses and comes to Maeza following appearances with the Spanish team in Lisbon and at the demanding Nations Cup in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Pello Elorduy and Kevin González de Zárate are also enjoying an excellent run of form. Both played a key role in Spain’s victory in Lisbon with valuable clear rounds that contributed decisively to the team’s success. More recently, they finished first and second respectively in the Grand Prix of the RFHE National Show Jumping League Gold Tour in Valladolid, further confirming the outstanding form they will bring to Maeza.
With all four members of the victorious Lisbon team set to compete, CSI Maeza will once again establish itself as a benchmark event for Spanish equestrian sport, offering spectators the opportunity to watch some of the country’s finest riders in action in the unique setting of Yeguada Finca Maeza.
