Kevin González de Zárate and Luis Ortiz Agüera Claim Victory at the National League Leg in Gijón

The fourth leg of the 2026 National Show Jumping League took place this weekend in Gijón, as part of the Ruta CHAS-FHPA held at the Club Hípico Astur. The two feature classes counting towards the League were won by Kevin González de Zárate in the Silver League and Luis Ortiz Agüera in the Gold League.

The CSN5* at CHAS attracted a strong field, with more than 320 horses taking part. The event also produced an exciting finish in the 1.50m Grand Prix, Trofeo Seguros Amado, counting towards the Gold League. The top three combinations all completed the jump-off in under 36 seconds, with just a few hundredths of a second separating them.

Victory went to young Córdoba-based rider Luis Ortiz Agüera, who produced a superb jump-off with Mr Quincy CB, stopping the clock at 35.48 seconds. He finished ahead of two experienced speed specialists: Jesús Garmendia, runner-up with Caramel Blue PS in 35.66 seconds, and Kevin González de Zárate, third with Djoural de Lizet in 35.81 seconds.

Earlier, the Gran Premio Verisure, counting towards the Silver League, saw a large field of 86 starters. Course designer Eduardo Álvarez Estrada set a demanding track, with enough technical challenges to ensure that only seven horse-and-rider combinations completed the first round clear.

Three combinations managed to keep a clean sheet in the jump-off, where experience and competitiveness proved decisive. Kevin González de Zárate, riding Jivago de Brekka, was the only rider to break the 40-second barrier and took the win.

The Basque rider finished ahead of Elena Appendino and her impressive mare Guaraná, while Alessandra Battilana, a Peruvian rider based in Spain, claimed third place with Armando Van de Kapel Z.

Following the Gijón results, Inés Hernández Yanguas, who finished seventh in the CHAS Grand Prix, retains the lead in the provisional Gold League standings, while Kevin González de Zárate moves into first place in the Silver League.
