The German rider Philipp Weishaupt wins the Copa de S.M. el Rey – Trofeo Helvetia Caser at Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid
16 May 2026Eduardo Álvarez Aznar came close to victory in front of the Madrid crowd with a brilliant second-place finish during an exciting day on the grass arena at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
Philipp Weishaupt claimed victory this Saturday in the Copa de S.M. el Rey – Trofeo Helvetia Caser, one of the most emblematic competitions of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid, after triumphing aboard “Chaquitos PS” in an exciting jump-off held on the grass arena at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
The class, contested over 1.50 m fences, brought together nearly fifty horse-and-rider combinations, with only eight progressing to the final jump-off. Among them were the Spaniards Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and Álvaro González de Zárate.
Eduardo Álvarez Aznar delivered a brilliant performance with “Genaro Paulois” and came close to victory in front of the Madrid crowd, ultimately securing an outstanding second-place finish, while third place went to Monegasque rider Anastasia Nielsen.
GRUPO EULEN TROPHY
In the Grupo EULEN Trophy, Emanuele Gaudiano once again demonstrated his speed by taking victory with “Chabrello PS” in the 1.45 m class. Iván Serrano and Álvaro González de Zárate both finished among the top ten riders.
RFHE GOLD MEDAL FOR LUIS ASTOLFI
In addition, before the jump-off of the King’s Cup, the Real Federación Hípica Española paid tribute to legendary Spanish rider Luis Astolfi, a four-time Olympian and four-time winner of the King’s Cup in Madrid, during an emotional ceremony in which he was awarded the RFHE Gold Medal, surrounded by family, friends, and a standing ovation from the crowd.
