The elite of the equestrian world will be on hand for the Global Champions Tour 2010, from the 7th-9th of May in the City of Arts and Sciences. Sport, competitions, glamour and fun, all in one event.
The most important equestrian circuit in the world will soon begin. Valencia is the inauguration of the Global Champions Tour 2010 and where the international equestrian fans will concentrate. After months of hard work, the GCT will receive 180 horses and 90 riders, from 23 countries, and who will participate in 15 different trials.
Some of the best international ranking riders will compete in the Grand Prix of Spain-Trophy Banc Sabadell (Saturday the 8th, starting at 4 pm), the trial with the highest amount of award prizes and which also counts toward the ranking in the Global Champions Tour. The current Olympic Champion, Eric Lamaze, from Canada, and currently number two in the FEI Rolex ranking, along with the Gold winner of the last WEG (World Equestrian Games), Jos Lansink, from Belgium, have both confirmed their participation.
There are still more stars: Pius Schwizer, from Switzerland and number one in the FEI Rolex ranking; Marcus Ehning, from Germany and number three and winner of the World Cup 09-10; Frenchman Kevin Staut, number five and current Champion of Europe; Ben Maher, from the UK at number six; the Australian Edwina Alexander, number seven; Dutch riders Harrie Smolders, number eight; Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, from Sweden, number nine; Steve Guerdat, from Switzerland, number ten; the Brazilian o Rodrigo Pessoa, number eleven; Jessica Kürten, from Ireland, number 13, etc. … All will be there for the Global Champions Tour, as well as the title defender: Michel Robert, from France.
Over 20 Spanish riders will compete, but only four will be able to represent Spain in the Grand Prix of Spain – Trophy Banc Sabadell. The number one ranked on a national level Sergio Álvarez Moya, from Asturias; the two time Champion of Spain, Jesús Garmendia, from San Sebastian and number two at the national level; the young rider from Galicia, Manuel Añón, number three at a national level; together with one of Spain’s best riders, Cayetano Martínez de Irujo (Champion of Spain and Sport Consultant of the GCT Valencia) will be our best options in the competition.
MORE THAN 200 JOURNALISTS AND TV COVERAGE IN OVER 60 COUNTRIES
The GCT Valencia will be broadcast on Teledeporte, Canal 9, FORTA and Eurosport, that will broadcast to over 60 countries. Interest in the event has attracted more than 200 journalists, more than a dozen of which are foreign journalists from specialized press.
