THE IRISH DERMOTT LENNON WINS THE COCA-COLA TROPHY
The main class of the day at the CSIO Gijón ended now with the tremendous victory of Dermott Lennon and his mare Loughview Lou Lou with a time of 46 seconds and clear round.
The Irish rider, champion of the 2002 Jerez World Equestrian Games, and his mare Loughview Lou Lou, won the Coca-Cola Class clear round and with a timing of 46 seconds. The present leader of the FEI ROLEX Ranking, Eric Lamaze, and his mare Sidoline Van de Centaur, were only 4 seconds behind and they won the second place. Third place was for the Saudi Abdullah Al Sharbatly, World Sub-Champion, and his mare Jalla de Gaverie. This class, five groups with winning round, lead to a jump-off of the first rider of each round together with the best 5 riders of the said rounds.
A GREAT VICTORY
The Irish rider was very pleased with the victory and he felt delighted and happy about it. The class was fast and everything went well”, said. Furthermore, he felt that his mare “has been very strong as always in the last competitions”.
The couples of the prize-winning ceremony were, besides Lennon and Loughview Lou Lou, the following: Lamaze and Sidoline Van de Centaur; Al Sharbatly and Jalla de Gaverie; Natale Chiaudiani and Almero 12 and, in the fifth place, Jill Henselwood and George.
Only 15 couples out of 54 were clear round in this last class of the day.
JESÚS GARMENDIA WINS AGAIN
The couple Jesús Garmendia and Perle Condeene win again in the third class of the Gijón CSI with 65 points and 48.54 seconds.
Jesús Garmendia, Spanish rider from The Basque Country, has won today on the 2011 Gijón International Jumping Show. He has been the best at the Telecable Class, first class of the second day of tournament. He has marked a time of 48.54 seconds and achieved 65 points. The course was accumulator competition with joker and no jump-off, and the Spanish rider surpassed Karim El Zoghby and his mare Dunoair Urona by a few seconds. Further down in the ranking, Emanuele Gaudiano and Dassino have won third place.
GARMENDIA, HAPPY ABOUT THE VICTORY
The Spanish rider says that “it is difficult to win when you compete at a high level. I’ve won and it is important to appreciate that my mare is in very good shape”.
The prize giving ceremony gave the awards to the winner, Jesús Garmendia, the egiptian El Zoghby (second place) and the Italian Gaudiano (third place). Another Spaniard, Alberto Márquez Galobardes and Kedehop, finished the class in fourth place. The fifth place was for the Italian Natale Chiaudiani and his horse Snai Corradio-O.H.
Only 30 couples out of 63 completed the course with the máximum points, and 14 riders rode all the course in less than one minute.
